I am an independent / non-denominational / interdenominational follower of Jesus. That said, I do identify with fundamental evangelicalism. The term fundamentalist has come to take on a negative connotation but in the original sense it was used to describe Evangelicals who affirmed five 'fundamental' aspects of Christian faith:
the inerrancy of Scripture (in the original manuscripts, 66 books)
the virgin birth of Christ
Christ's subsitutionary atonement
Christ's bodily resurrection
the authenticity of miracles
Any faith community that cannot affirm these five fundamentals should likely count itself as of another fold and outside of Christ.
Historically the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed both serve as good standards for normative Christian Orthodoxy. Therefore I also affirm:
that God created the heavens and the earth - that is, all that is visible and invisible
the Holy Trinity - God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - three-in-one, one-in-three
the Hypostatic Union - Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man, two natures not mixed and without division
that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures
that Christ ascended to the Father and sat down at His right hand
the resurrection of the dead, judgment, and eternal life
I additionally affirm:
believer's baptism by immersion
believers should partake of the Lord's Supper - it is open to all who are born again but should not be taken unworthily
Eternal Security
the Second Advent of Christ and the Millennial Kingdom
the future fulfillment of Covenant Promises to Israel
that Hell is literal and eternal
that the Church is one indivisible Body - with Christ as Head - and cannot be limited to or defined by any single visible, man-made, or earthly institution
We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbor as ourself
We are commanded to make disciples of all nations
Jesus Christ desires and demands the sanctification of all believers, an ongoing detachment from the world, the flesh and the Devil, and that His followers walk in increasing holiness as they mature in the faith and are conformed to His Image in greater measure
Christendom is in a Spiritual War against the Kingdom of Satan which presently rules the Earth through Powers and Principalities, as allowed in the sovereignty of God
the miraculous gifts are for today, but discernment is required - the gifts are for glorifying Christ and building up the Church
